Biography

Kristiane Church is an artist living and working in Winnipeg. She graduated with a BFA Honours from the University of Manitoba in 2015. Since then, she has participated in arts residencies at the Banff Centre and Plug In ICA. Currently, she works as the Photography Technician at the School of Art (U of M), and as the One Take Super 8 Event Coordinator for WNDX Festival.

Kristiane has enjoyed working with young people in various contexts. In high school she took a leadership course which included organizing a Harry Potter event day for children, as well as coaching a volleyball team. Previously, she co-ran a weekly bookclub for children with crafts, activities, and story time at the bookstore she worked at.

In more recent years, Kristiane has worked as an arts educator through Platform Gallery and Winnipeg Film Group. Although the workshops have been for adults, she is looking forward to sharing her knowledge and playful sense of humour with younger participants!

Project Samples

Super 8 filmmaking

I would love to do a one take Super 8 filmmaking project with high school students. Each student would make their own 3 minute short film, with all edits and cuts done in camera. The project would be broken down into various topics: -orientation of the camera functions and editing techniques -creating a storyboard -basic lighting set-ups -building props and altering costumes -shooting the films -hand-processing film (this would depend on the resources of the school, may be sent out to a lab instead) -DIY digitizing the film so students have a copy At the end of the project, it would be great to have a public screening of all the films!

Natural & Alternative Photography

In this project, students could experiments with a variety of alternative photographic processes, as well as eco-processing. Here is a list of processes that could be explored: -Cyanotypes -Van Dykes -Anthotypes -Lumens -Liquid Emulsion -Pinholes At the end of the project, students will have explored various techniques and we will have an art show up in the school!
