An Exploration of Kindness

Kindness doesn't have a colour, a scent, or weight. Instead, kindness is a force like the wind. The wind itself is invisible but we can see it's power as it moves through the trees. In much the same way we see the power of kindness as it moves through peoples' actions. Using traditional stories from a number of different cultures, including from the Jataka (2500 year old East Indian teaching stories), with accompanying group activities, we will explore acts of kindness as expressed through peoples' interactions, and reflected in how well we care for the world around us. As a culmination activity for each class involved, personal acts of kindness will be recorded on a large tree pictograph. These 'Trees of Kindness' will then be displayed somewhere in the school to celebrate the presence of kindness within the school community.

Testimonials

Jamie’s work with us was the talk of the school. Teachers were unanimously supportive and commented that they could see an increase in student’s confidence and creativity. One of the most noticeable benefits was the way students became interested in another’s stories. Younger students were paired with older students in an exchange that led to meaningful improvement in school and community spirit.
