Biography

For the last two decades, I have work in improvised theatre and improv comedy. I have travelled around the world performing and teaching improvisation.

I am the founder and current Artistic Director of the Winnipeg if… Improv Festival where we focus on creating new improvised work, collaborating with other art groups and fostering the next generation of improv performers. We have produced shows within the festival that trains and gives stage time to up-and-comers. The festival also produces a matinee show for high school students to introduce them to professional improv.
I have taught improv workshops for youth at Prairie Theatre Exchange, the Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Art City and in schools across Manitoba. I love what I do.

Creative Improvisation workshop

This workshop would be an introduction to theatre, storytelling and creativity. Using improvisation techniques and theatre games I will open students up to being more confident and give them the tools to express themselves. As mentioned in my experience, I have been working with improvisation for two decades both onstage and in the classroom. What I am planning to do is teach the fundamentals of improvisation to students. This includes the elements of a story, theatre and humour. The tools of improvisation also include collaboration, listening, teamwork, positivity and being able to adapt to change. The skills of improv, while primarily used to tell stories and make spontaneous theatre, are also great skills for the student to practice and enrich their life off-stage too.
